Houston’s First Day of Fall Feels Like Summer

Houston Heat

Although fall is here, that doesn’t mean that Texans will be free from the heat from the summer. September 22, 2022 was the first day of fall, but the state of Texas will still be “flirting with the triple digits” according to the Houston chronicle. According to the same article, the highest recorded temperature for this date was 99 degrees in 2005. Although the weather is expected to drop to the 90’s, the first week of fall may still feel like summer.

Possibility of blackouts remains

With the news of possible triple digits on the first day of fall, should Texas residents be concerned about blackouts? The answer is yes. It is no secret that Texas has experienced blackouts throughout this past summer and previous winter. With high heat continuing at the beginning of the fall season, blackouts are still very much a possibility for the people of Texas. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly and slowly by next week, and then temperatures will eventually drop much lower. Texans are now well aware of how the ERCOT grid can be unreliable during extreme temperatures (whether it be heat or cold), and how it can lead to a blackout or ERCOT asking residents to conserve energy. While there are grid issues that are strenuous on residents, the rising prices are another point of concern.

For months now, we have seen the people of Texas struggle with their rising energy bills. Energy prices have steadily climbed throughout this year, and are still climbing for most people. With the summer heat, Texans needed more energy to power their AC. Although many residents were asked to conserve their power so as to avoid blackouts with the grid, as well as lessen their bills by using less power during peak hours, for many people it simply was not possible with the high temperatures. With the temperatures and energy prices continually rising with each passing year, conserving energy during peak hours just isn’t going to cut it.

What you can do about it

Although high heat and sky high energy prices are not what any of us want, there is something that can help alleviate more years of summer heatwaves and hot fall weather: a Solar Powered System. Take control of your energy, and don’t rely on the grid for your power supply. Every year there are two things that can be guaranteed: the temperatures will be extreme, and blackouts will happen. With your own Solar Powered System, you gain independence and control over your energy and your bills. Alternative energy such as Solar Powered Systems, Backup Batteries, and Generators can take a load off your budget and give you peace of mind. Entering the world of solar power and energy can seem overwhelming, but IES Texas Solar has your back.
